AGS’s principal, Sandra Boyle Dougherty, is one of Hawaii’s most experienced jewelry appraisers with specialist knowledge in all areas of gemstone and jewelry valuation. A Graduate Gemologist of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA GG), she is a highly respected professional gemologist with worldwide recognition. Sandra attended the GIA’s Santa Monica campus in residence in 1981–2.
Sandra has experience in all facets of the jewelry industry with extensive retail experience with American Gem Society stores across the United States. She has successfully completed the prescribed courses in gemology and jewelry appraisal methodology of the American Gem Society, earning the title of Certified Gemologist Appraiser (CGA), and also completed the requirements to earn the title of Certified Insurance Appraiser (CIA).
Sandra has been an active member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) since 2009. She has also served on the board of directors of the Hawaii Jewelry Association (HJA) for ten years.
Sandra Boyle Dougherty has been employed in the jewelry industry for over 44 years. Her passion for gemstones drives her to continue to seek out new knowledge. She regularly attends gem and jewelry trade shows and educational conferences both here in the US and abroad.
As a result of her travels, in particular her travels to India and the mines and trading centers of Sri Lanka and Thailand, Sandra has gained hands-on experience about gemstone grading, their origins, and various enhancement techniques at the source.
